“The family-run Tenuta di Monte-Ficali wine estate is situated in the ‘Alta valle della Greve’ (high valley of the river Greve), in the heart of the Florentine Chianti Classico. The name of our farm comes from the nearby village of Montefioralle, known in the 10th century as ‘Castrum Monte-Ficali’. Its medieval walls and towers survive to this day on the top of the hill.
Our vineyards, which comprise of 5 hectares of principally Sangiovese vines, have been producing fine wines for over 40 years. But the history of these mineral-rich clay soils is much older, dating back three and a half centuries when the lands were included within the boundaries of the area delineated in 1716 by Cosimo de’ Medici as Chianti, and later as Chianti Classico.
Our terroir speaks of what went before and, as current custodians of this spectacular part of nature, we aim to produce age-worthy, elegant wines that are deserving of their birthright.
To this end, at Tenuta di Monte-Ficali, we farm organically and harvest exclusively by hand to produce about 25000 bottles annually.”
